Poor posture: A psychotherapist’s occupational hazard

One of my fondest memories of my work in healthcare is of a colleague who led our department as the point person for occupational safety. He took the role seriously and shepherded our department on a field trip to investigate stairway exits that were out of view and thus unknown by the majority.
The tragedy of 911 occurred not long after that field trip, underscoring the importance of a well understood evacuation plan. Eventually, I fled the company to pursue my dream of self-employment and discovered that one of my many, many roles as a solo practitioner was that of occupational health director.
