Mental health providers serving the LGBTQIA+ community say the current political climate has been an increasing cause of stress and anxiety for both clients and clinicians.
Political stresses are not necessarily unique to the current administration, but there has been a definite uptick since last November, said Helen Staab, LICSW, clinical director at SAYFTEE, a Brookline, MA-based therapeutic practice focused on the LGBTQIA+ community and their families.
“The pendulum has been swinging politically,” she said. “It has been on our clients’ radar for a bit, and [their concerns] have increased since the election.”
