Report: Prevention services should be prioritized

With mental and behavioral disorders on the rise, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released a `blueprint’ report offering evidence-based interventions.
The committee that authored the report began its study in 2023. It completed the document before recent federal changes in health agencies.
In a statement, Marcella Alsan, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., professor of public policy at Harvard Kennedy School, noted, “The costs associated with our nation’s mental health and substance use crises are unbearably high, measured in lost and shattered lives of children, parents, siblings, and friends, and in lost workers, human potential, and economic productivity.”
