FAIR Health study: claims, diagnoses increase

Fewer patients seek help from psychologists
Patients with mental health diagnoses rose nearly 40%, from 13.5% who received medical services in 2019 to 18.9% in 2023, according to a study released in April by FAIR Health.
The study, entitled, “Trends in Mental Health Conditions,” looked at data across geography, age, gender, in-network services, substance use with mental health and more.
Claim lines associated with mental health diagnoses grew in all states nationally from 3.8% of medical claims to 5.0% during that time-period. The smallest growth came in states including Massachusetts and Maine with Connecticut among the states with the large...
